Liverpool have confirmed that record signing Florian Wirtz will inherit the club’s iconic No. 7 shirt for the upcoming season, with fellow new arrival Hugo Ekitike taking the No. 22 jersey.

The club announced the full list of squad numbers for the 2025-26 campaign on Friday, with Wirtz’s allocation being the most high-profile. The German international, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in June for a reported £100 million, takes the number recently vacated by Luis Díaz following the Colombian winger’s £65.5 million transfer to Bayern Munich earlier this week.

The famous shirt has previously been worn by club legends such as Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, and Luis Suárez.

Meanwhile, French striker Hugo Ekitike, a recent acquisition from Eintracht Frankfurt, has been assigned the No. 22.

Other key summer signings have also received their numbers. Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez, who arrived from Bournemouth, will wear No. 6. Dutch wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, who joined Wirtz in moving from Bayer Leverkusen, has opted for the No. 30 he wore at his former club.

In the goalkeeping department, new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia has been given the No. 25 shirt, with backup keepers Freddie Woodman and Armin Pecsi taking No. 28 and No. 41 respectively.

The club also confirmed that two of their rising talents have been given new, lower squad numbers. Right-back Conor Bradley moves from No. 84 to No. 12, while teenage midfielder Trey Nyoni has switched from No. 98 to No. 42, reflecting their growing integration into the first-team picture.
