Wolves close to safety Deepening Tottenham’s Misery in 4-2 Thriller

Wolves extended their winning streak to four Premier League games for the first time since 1972, defeating a struggling Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 at Molineux on Sunday, April 13th. The victory moves Wolves 14 points clear of the relegation zone, while condemning Spurs to their 17th league defeat of the season.

Wolves capitalized on early errors from a rotated Spurs side, who made six changes following their Europa League draw with Eintracht Frankfurt. Rayan Aït-Nouri opened the scoring in just the second minute, firing home after Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario punched a clearance straight to him.

The hosts doubled their lead seven minutes before halftime in bizarre circumstances. Vicario pushed Marshall Munetsi’s header onto backtracking defender Djed Spence, with the ball deflecting into his own net.

Tottenham pulled a goal back shortly before the hour mark when Mathys Tel bundled the ball home after Wolves defender Nelson Semedo failed to clear Brennan Johnson’s cross effectively.

However, Wolves restored their two-goal advantage just five minutes later. The impressive Aït-Nouri beat Cristian Romero and crossed for Jørgen Strand Larsen to score with a simple finish. The Norwegian striker became only the second Wolves player (after Henri Camara in 2004) to score in four consecutive Premier League games.

Substitute Richarlison gave Spurs brief hope four minutes from time, scoring after José Sá tipped Romero’s header onto the bar. But Matheus Cunha, returning from suspension as a substitute for Wolves, sealed the victory shortly after, racing clear following an error by Lucas Bergvall and finishing calmly.

Wolves Edge Towards Safety, Spurs Slump Continues

The victory continues Wolves’ remarkable turnaround under manager Vitor Pereira, lifting them to 16th place and likely securing their Premier League status. Pereira has now collected 26 points since taking charge in December.

For Tottenham, the defeat sees them drop to 15th in the table. Manager Ange Postecoglou faces increasing pressure, with his side struggling for form ahead of a crucial Europa League quarter-final second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.
