Wolves vs Tottenham – Match Preview and Team News

0

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Molineux on Saturday for a relegation six-pointer against already-relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers, desperately seeking to end their winless run and escape the drop zone.

Roberto De Zerbi remains without a victory since replacing Igor Tudor in north London, with Spurs occupying 18th place and sitting two points adrift of safety with five matches remaining. The Italian’s side showed encouraging signs in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Brighton, but a stoppage-time equaliser denied them crucial points.

Wolves were condemned to the Championship after West Ham’s draw with Crystal Palace last week, joining Burnley in relegation. Rob Edwards’ side have lost 22 Premier League matches this season and could now play a role in dragging their visitors into the second tier.

Spurs’ Desperate Situation

Tottenham remain winless in all 15 Premier League games in 2026 (D6 L9), just one short of their all-time longest winless run of 16 matches from December 1934 to April 1935. This alarming statistic underlines the depth of their crisis.

The Brighton performance offered hope. Xavi Simons excelled on the left wing, while Rodrigo Bentancur’s return solidified central midfield. Spurs pressed effectively and played with energy befitting a De Zerbi team. However, conceding a late equaliser left several players devastated, raising concerns about confidence heading into this crucial fixture.

De Zerbi remains defiant. “I am proud of their performance. They have to be stronger, focused and come to training ground on Monday afternoon with a smile, otherwise they go home,” he said. “I have no time to see negative people or to see sad players or sad assistants. I don’t like people who cry and who think in negative way.”

The statistics against Wolves make grim reading. Spurs have lost their last three away league games at Molineux, as many as in their previous 16 visits (W10 D3). Wolves are unbeaten in their last six Premier League meetings (W4 D2), with their four wins just one fewer than in their first 17 encounters.

Spurs won seven of their first eight league games when scoring first this season, conceding only three goals. They have since won none of their last five when leading (D3 L2), shipping 11 goals – highlighting their fragility.

Their relegation rivals are thriving. Leeds United, West Ham United, and Nottingham Forest have lost just one of their last 13 combined Premier League games, winning five. Spurs must reverse this trend immediately.

Wolves’ Woeful Campaign

Wolves have endured a dismal season, collecting just 17 points from 33 matches. They have lost their last two games 4-0 to West Ham and 3-0 to Leeds, and haven’t lost three consecutive league matches by 3+ goals since November 2014 in the Championship. In the top flight, it last happened in November 1983.

The statistics paint a picture of comprehensive failure. Wolves have failed to score in 17 Premier League matches, last failing to score in more games in a league season in 2000-01 (19). They have scored just 24 goals all campaign, highlighting attacking dysfunction.

Edwards’ biggest Premier League win came against a De Zerbi team – Luton defeated Brighton 4-0 in January 2024. This offers slight hope that Wolves might spoil Spurs’ survival hopes despite their relegation.

Being already down could liberate Wolves to play without pressure, making this a dangerous fixture for vulnerable Spurs.

Team News

Wolves

Edwards faces defensive shortages with Yerson Mosquera suspended. Goalkeepers Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone are likely unavailable with shoulder injuries, meaning Daniel Bentley could continue after starting the Leeds defeat.

Matt Doherty may return after missing two matches with a niggle. Angel Gomes is doubtful with a toe injury, while Ladislav Krejci suffered whiplash at Leeds. Enso Gonzalez is ruled out for the season with knee trouble.

Tottenham

Destiny Udogie picked up a muscular injury against Brighton and will miss out. “Destiny has a problem and can’t play tomorrow,” De Zerbi confirmed. “We have Djed Spence, Souza is also available to come with us, so it’s not a big problem.”

Pape Matar Sarr remains out with a shoulder issue, while Guglielmo Vicario is closing in on a return from hernia surgery. Ben Davies, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert, Mo Kudus and Cristian Romero remain sidelined.

James Maddison is unavailable but travelled with the squad. “He felt pain, especially this week, but it’s not a serious problem,” De Zerbi explained. “He’s important… as a guy, as a leader, as a positive guy inside my dressing room.”

Simons has been involved in four goals in his last two starts (three goals, one assist), though all five of his Spurs goals have come at home – he’s had 20 shots away without success.

Predicted Lineups

Wolves: Bentley; Tchatchoua, Toti, S. Bueno, H. Bueno; J. Gomes, Andre, Mane; Bellegarde, Armstrong, Hwang

Tottenham: Kinsky; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence; Bissouma, Bentancur; Kolo Muani, Gallagher, Simons; Solanke

Head-to-Head

The reverse fixture in September ended 1-1. Wolves won 4-2 at Molineux in April 2025, with recent meetings favouring the hosts.

Form Guide

Wolves (L-L-D-L-W)

Relegated with 17 points after 33 matches. Back-to-back heavy defeats (4-0 vs West Ham, 3-0 vs Leeds) demonstrate their struggles, though being down could provide freedom.

Tottenham (D-L-L-W-D)

Winless in 15 league games in 2026, sitting two points from safety. Brighton’s draw showed improvement, but the late equaliser was crushing.

Prediction

Wolves have nothing to play for except pride, while Spurs are fighting for survival. De Zerbi’s side showed encouraging signs against Brighton and must capitalise on facing relegated opposition.

However, Wolves’ recent dominance in this fixture and Spurs’ winless run create uncertainty. Tottenham’s desperation should prove decisive, but expect another tense encounter.
