Liverpool Cruise Past Accrington Stanley in FA Cup
Liverpool secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over League Two side Accrington Stanley to advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup. Despite fielding a strong team, the Premier League leaders were made to work hard by a resilient Accrington side before eventually securing a comfortable win.
Diogo Jota opened the scoring for Liverpool just before the half-hour mark, tapping in Darwin Nunez’s cross after a swift counter-attack. Trent Alexander-Arnold then doubled their lead with a spectacular strike on the stroke of half-time, firing a powerful shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
Accrington, however, refused to simply roll over in the second half. They came close to pulling a goal back when Josh Woods, a boyhood Liverpool fan, rattled the crossbar with a powerful effort. Former Manchester United defender Donald Love also missed a golden opportunity, heading over from close range.
But Liverpool eventually extended their lead through substitute Jayden Danns, who scored on the rebound after Federico Chiesa’s shot was blocked. Chiesa then added a fourth goal in stoppage time with a low drive from distance, marking his first goal for the club since arriving from Juventus in August.
Alexander-Arnold Answers Critics
Trent Alexander-Arnold, who faced criticism following Liverpool’s recent draw with Manchester United, responded with a superb performance capped off by a stunning goal. The right-back also played a key role in Liverpool’s opening goal, combining with Dominik Szoboszlai to release Nunez.
Ngumoha Makes History
Accrington’s Rio Ngumoha made history by becoming the youngest starter in Liverpool’s history at 16 years and 135 days old. The teenage forward impressed with his lively display before being replaced by Danns.
Liverpool Await Fourth Round Opponents
