Milan’s New Signings Shine in Coppa Italia Victory over AS Roma
AC Milan’s new recruits made an immediate impact as they helped the Rossoneri secure a 3-1 win over Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. João Félix and Santiago Giménez, who both joined Milan on deadline day, combined for the decisive third goal, sending Milan into the semi-finals where they will face either Inter Milan or Lazio.
Milan had a busy end to the January transfer window, bringing in Félix, Giménez, Riccardo Sottil, and Warren Bondo to bolster their squad. Kyle Walker, who joined last month, was the only new signing to start against Roma.
Tammy Abraham, a former Roma player, gave Milan the lead with two well-taken goals in the first half. However, substitute Artem Dovbyk pulled one back for Roma early in the second half.
Manager Sérgio Conceição then introduced Félix and Giménez, and the duo combined to restore Milan’s two-goal advantage. Giménez’s clever pass sent Félix through on goal, and the Portuguese forward chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to seal the victory.
The immediate impact of Félix and Giménez highlights the quality of Milan’s new signings. Félix, who joined on loan from Chelsea, adds creativity and attacking flair to the team, while Giménez, a £30 million signing from Feyenoord, provides a goal threat and could face his former club in the Champions League next week.
This victory keeps Milan’s hopes of winning the Coppa Italia alive. They will face a tough test in the semi-finals against either Inter Milan or Lazio, but their new signings have given them a significant boost.
In the other quarter-final, Bologna defeated Atalanta to reach the semi-finals for the first time in 26 years. They will face either Juventus or Empoli in the next round.
