Mohun Bagan Super Giant continued their impressive run in the Indian Super League (ISL) with a commanding 3-0 victory over Punjab FC at the Salt Lake Stadium. A brace from Jamie Maclaren and a goal from Liston Colaco secured the win for the Mariners, who now hold a 12-point lead at the top of the table.
The first half was a tightly contested affair, with Mohun Bagan struggling to break down a well-organized Punjab defense. However, the home side took control after the break, with Maclaren opening the scoring in the 56th minute. Colaco then added a second with a superb solo effort, before Maclaren completed his brace in the closing stages to seal a comfortable victory.
Maclaren’s two goals highlighted his clinical finishing and his ability to find space in the penalty area. His first goal was a well-taken effort after receiving a cross from Dipendu Biswas, while his second came after capitalizing on a defensive error.
Colaco’s goal was a moment of individual brilliance, as he cut inside from the left wing and unleashed a powerful shot that found the back of the net. The winger has been in impressive form this season, and his goal was a deserved reward for his performance.
This victory was Mohun Bagan’s ninth consecutive win at home, and they have now kept 12 clean sheets in the ISL this season. Their dominant display against Punjab FC further underlines their status as title favorites.
Prior to the match, Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith was felicitated for becoming the first goalkeeper in ISL history to reach 50 clean sheets. Kaith, who is also leading the race for the Golden Glove this season, has been a key figure in Mohun Bagan’s success.
