Mo Salah Signs New Two-Year Contract Extension with Liverpool
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has ended months of speculation regarding his future by signing a new two-year contract extension with the Premier League club, it was announced on Friday, April 11th. The deal keeps the prolific Egyptian international at Anfield until the summer of 2027.
Salah’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of the current season, leading to widespread discussion about his potential departure, particularly fueled by interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Salah’s own comments earlier in the campaign suggesting an exit was possible.
However, the 32-year-old has now committed his future to the Reds. “Of course I’m very excited – we have a great team now,” Salah said following the announcement. “I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football. I have played eight years here, hopefully it’s going to be 10. I’m enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I have had the best years of my career here.”
The agreement is a major boost for Liverpool as they chase a record-equaling 20th English league title. Salah has been instrumental again this season, scoring 32 goals in all competitions (including 27 in the Premier League) and providing 17 assists, taking his overall tally for the club to 243 goals and 109 assists in 393 appearances. Since joining from Roma in 2017, he has won every major trophy available, including the Champions League and Premier League.
The long-running contract saga had seen Salah previously state it was his “last year” and that he was “probably more out than in,” following perceived delays in negotiations. Liverpool reportedly rejected a £150m offer from Saudi club Al-Ittihad in 2023. The club celebrated the extension with a social media picture of Salah on a throne captioned ‘more in than out’.
Financial details were not disclosed, but Salah’s previous deal was understood to be worth over £350,000 per week, making him the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history, and the new agreement is not believed to involve a pay cut.
