Toothless Arsenal slip further in title race with Everton stalemate

Arsenal’s hopes of closing the gap on their Premier League title rivals suffered another setback as they were held to a frustrating goalless draw by a resilient Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

This marks the second consecutive week in which Mikel Arteta’s side have dropped points, following a controversial VAR decision that denied them victory against Fulham last time out.

Despite dominating possession, Arsenal struggled to break down Everton’s well-organized defence. Their usually fluid attacking play lacked its customary spark, with the Toffees effectively stifling the Gunners’ creative threats.

This missed opportunity to capitalize on Liverpool’s draw with Fulham leaves Arsenal six points adrift of the league leaders, who also have a game in hand.

The Gunners’ recent performances have been characterized by a lack of urgency and tempo in their build-up play, echoing concerns raised by Arteta himself earlier in the season.

While Arsenal have controlled possession in their past three games, they have struggled to translate that dominance into clear-cut chances.

Against Everton, the home crowd’s frustration was palpable, with calls for greater urgency and directness in their passing.

Despite a flurry of late substitutions, Arsenal were unable to find the breakthrough. While they did create some half-chances, indecision and a lack of clinical finishing ultimately cost them.

This latest setback highlights the need for Arsenal to rediscover their attacking dynamism if they are to maintain their title challenge.

With Manchester City and Chelsea both having the opportunity to gain ground this weekend, the pressure is mounting on Arteta’s side to find solutions and regain momentum.
