In a historic move, FIFA has confirmed the host nations for the 2030 and 2034 men’s World Cup s. The 2030 tournament will be a groundbreaking event, spanning three continents and six countries: Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2034 World Cup.

A Six-Nation Spectacle in 2030

The 2030 World Cup will mark a first for the tournament, with matches taking place across multiple continents. The opening match will be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, to commemorate the centenary of the first-ever World Cup, which was hosted by Uruguay in 1930.

Subsequent matches will be held in Argentina and Paraguay, recognizing their historical significance in South American football. The remaining games will be spread across Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

This unique arrangement will see World Cup matches played in Portugal, Paraguay, and Morocco for the first time. Morocco will become the first North African nation to host the tournament, while Spain will host matches for the first time since 1982.

Saudi Arabia to Host in 2034

Saudi Arabia was confirmed as the sole host for the 2034 World Cup following Australia’s withdrawal from the bidding process. The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has pledged to deliver a “world-class tournament,” drawing on the country’s “deep-rooted passion for football.”

This decision aligns with FIFA’s rotational policy, ensuring that the 2034 World Cup will be held in either Asia or Oceania, following the 2026 tournament in North America and the 2030 edition across South America, Europe, and Africa.

Saudi Arabia’s Growing Influence in Sports

Saudi Arabia has made significant investments in the sports world in recent years, particularly in football. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) has acquired ownership of four major Saudi Pro League clubs and attracted numerous high-profile players from European leagues.

Beyond football, Saudi Arabia’s PIF has invested heavily in golf, tennis, and boxing, hosting major events and attracting top athletes. This latest announcement further solidifies the nation’s growing influence and ambition in the global sports landscape.
